It’s easy to pile up stuff without realizing it. But until you find a way to declutter spaces and repurpose them, you might find yourself overwhelmed with too much stuff.
I am constantly looking for a space at home to reuse. Believe me, if given the chance, I’ll probably be at your home helping you create spaces. When I decorate at home, my first thought is of a space that feels welcoming and easy to move around in.
But I’ll be honest and tell you that keeping spaces decluttered and organized is not as easy as thought or said. Clearing clutter and maintaining a well-organized room is a skill that develops into an art over time.
Imagine the number of items a person has accumulated and kept over the years. Short of not referring to this practice as hoarding, it is obvious that many of us hold on to stuff and refuse to let it go.
Some of us claim to be emotionally attached while others are just obsessed with acquiring anything that feeds the eyes. But getting rid of stuff may not be so difficult. Like any worthy task that a person wants to undertake, a plan must be in place. I created a strategy for clearing clutter and defining spaces that have allowed me to keep rooms, closets, and other spaces at home light and clutter-free.
Clearing the Clutter
I sometimes work from home so cleared spaces allow me to start my day right and take a relaxing break whenever I need. I try as much as possible to make my home feel like my personal retreat. I do whatever I can to create a space that refreshes and relaxes my mind, body, and spirit. A place to unwind and enjoy.
My Clutter Clearing and Space Defining Strategy
The list below is how I plan and execute my decluttering strategy:
#1 Decide the room or space to work on
#2 Determine how the space will be re-used after clearing
#3 Choose colors, décor and furniture
#4 Plan to dispose of any useful items- donation, hand-me-down, sell, etc.
#5 Allow family members to help me with decluttering decisions since they share the space also.
Start the project
Clean, decluttered, sensibly decorated spaces make me truly happy. I spend quite a bit of my time cluttering and redecorating spaces at home. If it makes me happy and fulfilled, then I am going to keep on keeping my spaces decluttered, defined, and sensibly decorated.
